Dr Sophia Hinrichsen BVSc Hons
Sophia has rich, vast and worldly experience with all things equine. Becoming an equine vet was not an option, it was a destined path. Sophia was raised in the saddle, growing up with the elegance of dressage and the hardiness of trail riding.
Starting her career in the world of research, Sophia has published multiple internationally renowned scientific papers in the fields of : –
• Endocrinology, particularly in Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction (PPID/Cushings).
• Microbiology and Multidrug Resistant Organisms; creating antibiotic protocols for equine veterinarians to use in daily practise.
Sophia has presented her research around the globe, including at the prestigious American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) Annual Forum.
Leaving the world of research, Sophia continued to work on an international platform. She has spent time working at the prestigious equine hospital, Rood and Riddle KY, USA, working alongside the equine veterinarians that wrote the text books. Sophia’s heart resides at Højgård Hestehospital, an incredible equine hospital in the Danish countryside.
She was lucky enough to undergo much of her university training here and then later work there as a veterinarian. Sophia returns annually to Højgård Hestehospital to enjoy the Danish Warmblood breeding season and bring back the latest European veterinary technology to Australia.
In 2021, Sophia was offered a residency position to become a board-certified specialist in Equine Medicine at the University of QLD. She made the tough decision to decline the once in a life time offer, in order to spend more time with her own horses, family and create a business of her own; Sol Equine Vet
